Furrowfield School

Admissions

September Admissions

Students wishing to attend Furrowfield School require an EHCP naming Furrowfield School as their provision in Section I.

Applications to Furrowfield School are submitted only via the EHCP review process. Gateshead SEND Team will consult with Furrowfield School on your behalf following an EHCP review which requests Furrowfield School as named provision.

Year 6 reviews will be held within the autumn term and consultations will follow completion of paperwork.

The SENDCo in collaboration with the SLT, parents and other key agencies will ensure Furrowfield School is an appropriate provision to support pupils joining the school. The LA will liaise with the school so that decisions on placement for a pupil with an Education and Health Care Plan reflect the individual circumstances of each child and the school.

In-Year Transfers

School transfer requests for children with an EHCP will be referred to the Gateshead SEND Team. They will work with parents to secure a place at a school where the specific needs of the child can be met.

If you would like your child to transfer to Furrowfield School you will need to follow the EHCP process and request Furrowfield School as your parental preference.

Admission Appeals

The Local Authority will work alongside parents, carers, young people and schools to prevent disagreements, there may be times when you are unhappy with the decision made about your childs named provision within the EHCP but there are a number of things that you can do if you disagree with this decision.

Arrange a meeting with Gateshead SEND Team

If you disagree with a decision that has been made, you will normally be invited to a meeting to talk about it.  You can take someone with you for support. This could be a friend, family member or someone from a support group or charity. If you don't have anyone, we can help you find an independent supporter.

Mediation

If you've had a meeting with Gateshead SEND Team and require further support, you can ask for a mediation meeting. This is a way to try to sort out disagreements about the education parts of an EHC plan.

Mediation involves a trained, independent person who helps everyone talk through the issue and try to find a solution. It's your choice whether to take part, and it's free for parents, carers, and young people.

Appeal to the first-tier tribunal

If you still want to appeal the decision in the education part of the EHC plan, you can appeal to a tribunal. The tribunal is an independent group that looks at appeals about the Local Authority decisions. A panel made up of a judge and two experts will review your case. They can only look at the education parts of the EHC plan.

Parents, carers, and young people over 16 can appeal.

Please contact Gateshead SEND team for further advice on our admission process.
