What is Team Teach?
Team Teach is a nationally recognised and accredited approach to behaviour support that focuses on understanding the reasons behind behaviour and supporting individuals in a safe, respectful and positive way. The approach is based on the belief that behaviour is a form of communication and that children and young people may express distress, anxiety or frustration through their actions.
The training equips staff with a range of practical strategies to:
- Build positive relationships with students.
- Recognise and respond to signs of distress.
- Support emotional regulation.
- Prevent situations from escalating.
- Reduce risk and promote safety for everyone.
Our Approach
At Furrowfield School, our focus is always on understanding, supporting and de-escalating behaviour. Team Teach promotes a proactive approach, helping staff to identify triggers, meet individual needs and use effective communication strategies to support students before a crisis occurs.
Physical Intervention
As part of the Team Teach framework, staff are trained in safe and appropriate physical intervention strategies. However, these are only ever considered as a last resort when there is a significant risk of harm to the student or others. The emphasis of Team Teach is on prevention and de-escalation, with physical intervention forming only a small part of the overall approach.
Benefits for Our Pupils
By using the Team Teach approach, we aim to:
- Promote emotional wellbeing.
- Develop students' confidence and resilience.
- Support positive behaviour choices.
- Create a safe learning environment.
- Reduce anxiety and distress.
- Foster positive relationships between students and staff.
Working Together
We recognise that successful behaviour support is most effective when schools and families work together. We are committed to sharing our approaches with parents and carers and working in partnership to ensure the best possible outcomes for all students.
At Furrowfield School, Team Teach forms an important part of our commitment to providing a safe, inclusive and supportive environment where every child is respected, supported and able to achieve their full potential.
