Furrowfield School's Commitment to Bullying Prevention
At Furrowfield School, we are committed to creating a safe, inclusive and supportive environment where every child feels valued, respected and able to achieve their full potential. We are proud to have achieved our first BIG Award in 2023 and continue to work closely with Mrs Lydon and the Bullying Intervention Group (BIG) to ensure our anti-bullying practice remains effective, up to date and responsive to the needs of our pupils.
What is the BIG Award?
The Bullying Intervention Group (BIG) runs a nationally recognised award scheme, endorsed by Kidscape, which celebrates excellence in bullying intervention and prevention. The award recognises schools and organisations that demonstrate a strong commitment to creating safe, inclusive environments for children and young people.
How We Meet the BIG Award Standards
To achieve and maintain the award, Furrowfield School demonstrates:
- A dedicated Bullying Intervention Focus Group
- A robust Anti-Bullying Policy
- Regular staff training and professional development
- Active involvement of parents and carers
- Peer support and mentoring opportunities for pupils
- Ongoing awareness-raising activities
- Pupil voice through testimonials and feedback
- Effective recording, monitoring and review of bullying incidents
These measures ensure that our approach to bullying prevention is embedded throughout school life and remains focused on the needs of our pupils.
