Safeguarding at Furrowfield School

At Furrowfield School, safeguarding is our highest priority and underpins everything we do. We are fully committed to ensuring that all students are safe, protected and able to learn in a secure and supportive environment, in line with statutory guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE).

We recognise that our students may present with a range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and vulnerabilities. As a result, safeguarding at Furrowfield School goes beyond compliance—it is embedded within our culture, curriculum and daily practice, ensuring that every student feels known, valued and supported.

Our Safeguarding Approach

Safeguarding at Furrowfield School is:

  • Proactive and vigilant – all staff are trained to identify and respond to safeguarding concerns.
  • Child-centred – ensuring the voice of every student is heard, respected and acted upon.
  • Relational – building strong, trusting relationships that enable students to feel safe, supported and understood.
  • Integrated – linking safeguarding with attendance, behaviour, wellbeing and personal development.


Every member of staff takes responsibility for safeguarding and receives training in current statutory guidance. This includes recognising the signs of abuse, neglect, exploitation and online harm. Concerns are recorded, monitored and acted upon through robust safeguarding systems, ensuring timely and appropriate intervention.

Creating a Safe Environment

We are committed to creating a school environment where students:

  • Feel safe, secure and respected.
  • Are able to talk to trusted adults about their worries or concerns.
  • Understand how to keep themselves safe, both offline and online.
  • Develop the knowledge and skills needed to make safe and informed choices.


This is supported through our PSHRE curriculum, assemblies, pastoral systems and therapeutic provision, including our Therapeutic Assessment and Support Centre (TASC).

Safeguarding and Wellbeing

We understand that safeguarding and wellbeing are closely linked. Students are supported to develop emotional regulation, resilience and self-awareness, enabling them to engage positively and safely in school life.

Our strong pastoral systems, including dedicated tutors and key staff, ensure that students are closely supported and monitored. Attendance, behaviour and wellbeing are all viewed as important indicators of safeguarding, and any concerns are followed up promptly and appropriately.

Working in Partnership

Safeguarding is most effective when there is strong partnership working. At Furrowfield School, we work closely with:

  • Parents and carers
  • Social care and external agencies
  • Health professionals
  • Local authority services


By working collaboratively, we ensure that students receive the right support at the right time and that concerns are addressed holistically and effectively.
