On Friday 26th September 2025, Furrowfield School welcomed students, parents, carers, governors and members of the wider school community to our annual Macmillan Coffee Morning, raising valuable funds for the outstanding work of Macmillan Cancer Support. The event provided an excellent opportunity for our school community to come together in support of an important charitable cause while celebrating the values that sit at the heart of the Furrowfield Way and our ethos of Together We Succeed.
This year's event was uniquely linked to the European Day of Languages, creating an engaging cross-curricular learning opportunity for our students. As part of the morning, students were encouraged to use French when ordering refreshments, helping them to apply their language learning in a meaningful real-world context. It was wonderful to see students communicating with confidence, demonstrating their developing vocabulary and speaking skills while interacting with parents, carers, staff and visitors. The event highlighted how learning can extend beyond the classroom, supporting students to build communication skills, cultural awareness and self-confidence through authentic experiences.
The coffee morning reflected many aspects of our commitment to personal development, which is a central feature of the Furrowfield curriculum. Students played an active role in welcoming guests, serving refreshments, engaging in conversations and helping to create a warm and inclusive atmosphere. These experiences supported the development of important life skills, including teamwork, responsibility, independence and positive social interaction, while also promoting respect, kindness and community engagement.
It was particularly pleasing to welcome so many parents and carers into school for this special occasion. Their support helped to create a genuine sense of community and partnership, demonstrating the strong relationships that are so important to the success of our students. Events such as these strengthen connections between home and school, providing opportunities for families to share in school life and celebrate student achievements.
Throughout the morning, visitors enjoyed a wide range of homemade cakes, refreshments and activities, while learning more about both the work of Macmillan Cancer Support and the importance of celebrating different languages and cultures. The generosity shown by everyone who attended was greatly appreciated, and the funds raised will help support individuals and families affected by cancer.
The event was a wonderful example of how Furrowfield School promotes academic learning alongside character development, citizenship and community involvement. By combining charity fundraising, language learning and family engagement, the Macmillan Coffee Morning provided a memorable experience that reflected our commitment to developing confident, resilient, collaborative and compassionate young people who are well prepared for life beyond school.
