The Futures curriculum brings together key aspects of Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Education, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), Careers Education, Citizenship, Financial Education, and Religious Education. Through carefully sequenced learning, pupils develop the knowledge and skills needed to manage their wellbeing, build positive relationships, make informed decisions, and prepare successfully for life beyond school.
We place a strong emphasis on emotional wellbeing and personal development. Pupils are taught how to recognise and manage emotions, maintain positive mental health, seek support when needed, and develop healthy coping strategies. Through exploring topics such as self-esteem, body image, mental health, stress, and resilience, pupils gain a greater understanding of themselves and others.
Developing healthy, respectful, and safe relationships is a key element of our curriculum. Pupils learn about friendships, family relationships, consent, boundaries, diversity, online relationships, and personal safety. Through age-appropriate learning, pupils are supported to understand how to build positive relationships and make safe choices both offline and online.
Our Futures curriculum also prepares pupils for financial independence and the world of work. Through careers education and financial literacy, pupils develop an understanding of saving, budgeting, taxation, insurance, employment, career pathways, and long-term financial planning. They are encouraged to identify their strengths, aspirations, and future goals whilst developing the skills needed to access further education, employment, and training opportunities.
Citizenship and social responsibility are embedded throughout the curriculum. Pupils explore democracy, human rights, equality, diversity, community participation, and active citizenship. They are encouraged to understand their rights and responsibilities, value different perspectives, and recognise how they can make positive contributions to their communities and wider society.
Through the study of Religion and World Views, pupils develop an understanding of different beliefs, philosophies, ethical issues, and cultural perspectives. This promotes respect, tolerance, critical thinking, and an appreciation of the diversity that exists within modern Britain and the wider world.
Ultimately, our intent is that every pupil leaves Furrowfield School with the confidence, knowledge, and practical life skills required to lead safe, healthy, and fulfilling lives. We aim to empower pupils to make informed choices, develop meaningful relationships, manage their wellbeing, achieve their aspirations, and become successful and valued members of their communities.
